A Crash Course in Chiropractic

Have you ever wondered what a chiropractor does, exactly? The simplest answer, of course, would be that we adjust the back and spine. But there’s actually a lot more to it than that. This week we’re taking a bird’s eye view of chiropractic to give you an overview of what we do and how we do it!

Chiropractic Adjustments Explained

The modality of chiropractic health care is based on the study of the close relationship between the spine and the nervous system. Your spine is your lifeline, as it houses all the nerves that connect to every system in your body. When we adjust the spine, often simply referred to as an “adjustment” or “manipulation,” we are directly working on the body’s nervous system.

As chiropractors, we apply pressure to the joint in a specific way, using either our hands or a special instrument like an activator. These adjustments help to bring joints into alignment, leading to improved nervous system function, pain relief, improved range of motion, tension release, and much more.

The Benefits

Chiropractic care is most commonly used to address back pain, neck pain, and headaches. However, many other conditions can be improved as well, including scoliosis, injury recovery, asthma, pregnancy-related joint pain, and even infertility.

One of the greatest benefits of chiropractic care is that it is very safe. It is completely non-invasive and requires no drugs. There's no aftercare required either. Many of our patients remark that they feel noticeably better immediately following an adjustment.

The Risks

The risk of complications from chiropractic adjustments is very low, especially when you are working with a fully trained and licensed chiropractic doctor. That said, no health care service is right for everyone. If you have a question about whether or not chiropractic care is right for you, just reach out to us and we’d be happy to help guide you in the right direction!
