Got Sunburn? Soothe Your Skin Naturally

Try as you might to manage your time in the sun wisely this summer, you may find yourself red and uncomfortable from some unwanted sunburn. If that’s the case, reach for these natural remedies to soothe your skin and speed your recovery!

  1. Coconut Oil
    Coconut oil is super nourishing to the skin because it’s full of nutrients and antioxidants. It’s moisturizing, antibacterial, and will help fight wrinkles along with sun damage. Apply organic, cold-pressed, unrefined coconut oil to your areas of sunburn to moisturize the skin and promote healing.

  2. Aloe Vera
    Aloe vera has 75 active components, including antioxidants, minerals, and nutrients that help skin heal. That’s why aloe vera has been a go-to skin remedy for thousands of years. If you have an aloe plant, you can rub the gel from inside the leaves onto your skin. If you don’t, look for aloe gel at natural food stores. (It should be thick like gel, not watery like juice.) Rub onto your skin and let it air dry.

  3. Lavender
    Lavender essential oil is soothing and healing when applied to irritated skin such as sunburn or bug bites. Dilute a few drops of lavender in a small amount of coconut oil and apply to any areas that are burned.

  4. Apple Cider Vinegar
    Apple cider vinegar is known for healing cuts and burns, and it can be very helpful for relieving sunburns too. Apple cider vinegar restores the skin’s pH and helps reduce inflammation. Mix a 50/50 ratio of raw apple cider vinegar and water in a spray bottle. Spray directly onto your skin or onto a washcloth that you then apply to your skin. Store the spray bottle in the refrigerator to increase the cooling sensation.
